The coronavirus has battered the economy and cost many people their jobs, but for dozens of Los Angeles Fire Department employees assigned to COVID-19 test sites, the pandemic has delivered a bonanza in overtime pay.
"There are guys making more in a month than a teacher makes in a year," said an LAFD official who questioned the exorbitant payouts at a time when Mayor Eric Garcetti, who has taken bows for providing free COVID testing at several city locations, has told top city managers to prepare for possible layoffs and other cost cutting.
Quite a lot has been going on:

Farm groups advocate for delay in Farm Laborers Wage Board report | WETM - MyTwinTiers.com
ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) – New York State’s final Farm Laborers Wage Board hearing is taking place virtually tonight. The board is supposed to put together a report by the end of the year advising whether the overtime threshold for farm laborers should be lowered.
Since the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act went into effect this year, workers have been entitled to overtime pay after hitting 60 hours per week, or if they work on their day off. And, as part of the law, a board was created to come up with a report by December 31st, looking into whether that overtime threshold should be lowered. “I think that there is no way that the board can make an educated decision in just a few months.

Sleep-deprived: 32-hour shifts becoming more common among officers at ACI - News -
Corrections officers in Rhode Island are working more marathon 32-hour shifts, leading to safety concerns at the state’s prison in Cranston and contributing to overtime costs that stand apart from other law enforcement agencies in the state.
In the 12 months between last July 1 and June 30, officers at the Adult Correctional Institutions worked 4,468 of the 32-hour shifts, called "quads" because they’re four shifts in a row. That’s an increase of more than 1,000 quads over the same period the previous year. On average, that would mean each officer worked 5.3 quads over the 12 months.

Washington State announce 2021 minimum wage: $13.69 | News | nbcrightnow.com
The change is significant this year because it also impacts wages paid to some salaried employees exempt from overtime and other protections under state law.
The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) enforces the state's wage-and-hour laws. The minimum wage applies to most jobs, including those in agriculture.
This is the first year L&I has returned to calculating the minimum wage since 2016. For the past four years, increases were mandated as a result of passage of Initiative 1433 that year.
