Cybersecurity remains an investment priority, and small and medium businesses (SMBs) allocated $275,000 to cybersecurity while enterprises invested $14 million on average this year, according to the report by cyber security firm Kaspersky.
The share of IT budget dedicated to IT security continues to grow year-on-year, though the overall IT budget has fallen from $1.2 million in 2019 to $1.1 million in 2020 among SMBs, and from $74.1 million to $54.3 million for enterprises.
Australian Treasurer Says Budget Assumes Virus Vaccine Next Year
Australia's budget forecasts will assume a coronavirus vaccine will be developed in the next year, Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says.
"The budget takes into account the possibility that is the case," Frydenberg told Sky News Australia in a segment from an interview to be broadcast Monday". "We have factored in those issues related to the vaccine and those will be available on budget night."
Assuming a vaccine is available in 2021 will be a positive for the economic outlook, as it may signal a return to international travel and foreign tourist spending. Frydenberg is set to use his budget on Oct. 6 to ditch fiscal restraints and unveil a massive surge in spending to restart the economy after it fell into its first recession in almost 30 years.

Terre Haute City Council unanimously approved Thursday a $96 million operating budget for 2021 and salary ordinances that include a 3% pay increase for city employees.
Mayor Duke Bennett said he is proud the budget is about $550,000 less than was appropriated for 2020, all while navigating the uncertainties of COVID-19's impact on revenue, giving employees a raise and outfitting Terre Haute Police Department with body cameras.
"It may not sound like a lot in a $96 million budget, but it pays for all the cuts we've made and positions us to deal with any loss of revenue next year," Bennett said.
