Tax preparation can be intimidating. In fact, the IRS says that the average time it takes taxpayers to file a Form 1040 or 1040-SR is around 13 hours, which "includes all associated forms and schedules, across all tax return preparation methods and taxpayer activities."

H&R Block estimates a simple tax return could take less than two hours to complete, touting its system's ability to speed up the process by skipping unnecessary sections based on your answers to various questions.

Amazon seeking to slash $600,000 from its taxes in Bondurant, Iowa

Amazon has a $1 million tax bill due to Polk County at the end of March, but the company is fighting for a big reduction.

The online shopping giant, which started operating warehouses in the Des Moines market at the end of 2020, has appealed the county assessment of the first and largest one, its Bondurant fulfillment center, at 500 32nd St. S.W.

States with highest income taxes for people earning $75,000

Single filers earning $75,000 a year will pay nearly $6,000 in state income taxes in Oregon, the most of any U.S. state, according to Tax Foundation data provided to CNBC Make It.

On the other end of the spectrum, seven states — Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas and Wyoming — don't levy any income taxes at all .

The reason you may feel like you’re earning less for longer hours compared to your parents is because it’s likely the case. Average hourly wages, adjusted for inflation, have declined since the 1970s, while the average number of hours worked has increased.

A new study by Bisnar Chase has revealed that the average Arizona employee in the private sector worked approximately 2.1 hours of unpaid overtime per week over 2022 (the national average was 2.1 hours of unpaid overtime).
