Should the rich pay more in taxes? We ask New Yorkers on Wall Street

SALLY HERSHIPS, BYLINE: We've been talking about the so-called billionaire's tax. But what do people think on Wall Street, where some of the richest people in the world make their money?

HERSHIPS: It only takes three zeros to get you from millionaire to billionaire, and you can make those zeros right here in New York City's financial district. The Stock Exchange is here. Walk down the block, you'll see Tiffany's, shiny black cars with chauffeurs waiting inside.

Tariffs, taxes and nuclear weapons are big topics at the G-20 summit : NPR

At his first in-person G-20 summit, President Biden is discussing tariffs, taxes and nuclear weapons with leaders of the world's biggest economies.

KHALID: Thank you. And I guess it's not morning for you. I know you've had a long trip, a long day, but let's just start with the tariff announcement. President Biden certainly surprised some European leaders by keeping these Trump-era tariffs in place during the beginning of his presidency.

Energy-efficient rental inside Laurelhurst bungalow helps pay owner's rising taxes -

Jerry Heade's retirement dreams included transforming underused space in his Portland house into a rental unit. The former pharmacist for Fred Meyer will soon be able to lock his front door and enjoy months-long trips without leaving his property vacant.

A second, smaller home sharing a residential city lot with an existing house has long enabled Oregonians to generate rental income or shelter additional family members.

Readers respond: Improve city or refund taxes - oregonlive.com

I recently received my property tax bill. It increased by more than $1,300 from last year. The portion that specifically goes to the city of Portland is $1,964.54 with an additional $565.79 for Portland local measures. This seems to be a waste of money.

In the past two years, the city has done little to prevent shootings, vandalism and the homeless issue that is rapidly increasing. The police department is in dire shape, with those sworn to protect the citizens and property of the city demoralized by city leaders.

“I think it's pretty much clear now, or I don't know if it is clear now, but it was pretty much accounting irregularities," Davis said, via Tafur. "That's why the CFO left, the controller left and the president left, that's what it was.”

Waiting on reconciliation: The final stage? | Accounting Today

Months of campaigning, proposals, hearings and negotiations have produced an infrastructure bill that needs to be paid for, and a reconciliation bill that is meant to pay for it. The final measures are becoming clearer, but the actual numbers are still subject to change.

"Whatever they settle for in the infrastructure bill will drive the tax provisions in the reconciliation bill," said Ryan Losi, executive vice president at Glen Allen, Virginia-based accounting firm Piascik, in mid-October. "Until they settle that, we won't have a bill that addresses tax."

Dems' Enronesque accounting is just one more sign of how inept the Biden 'Build Back' agenda

After months of wrangling, Democrats claim they're close to an agreement on a Build Back Better plan of $1.75 trillion over 10 years that's completely paid for.

None of that is true. Never mind that holdout Sen. Joe Manchin says a deal is unlikely before President Joe Biden jets off to Rome Thursday. Dems' sleight-of-hand has 10 years of tax hikes paying for just a few years of their spending.
