France adopts softer approach to digital asset regulations - CoinGeek

France is adopting a softened approach to digital asset regulations that will give virtual asset service providers (VASPs) more time to comply with European regulations.

The French National Assembly voted for an amendment allowing VASPs to continue operating without obtaining full licensing. The amendment, proposed by centrist lawmaker Daniel Labaronne, will give VASPs 18 more months to operate as they apply for full licenses.

New regulations that place stricter limits on the presence of “forever chemicals” in Pennsylvania’s public drinking water are not expected to heavily impact the local water supply, officials said.

While the revised standards dramatically reduce the levels of two forms of the toxic chemicals that collectively are known as PFAS, local water companies said routine testing has found the amount of the substances in the water is below what the state will allow starting in 2024.

In an interview Tuesday after Lombardo's State of the State address, Cannizzaro said regulations in Nevada exist to flesh out the details of laws passed by the Legislature. She said those laws are subject to extensive legal scrutiny and public comment periods.

"Saying you want to get rid of regulations or stop regulations from laws that have been passed and signed into law sounds like a great way to advertise that somehow you're reducing government and it's going to be more efficient," Cannizaro said.

Economics Isn’t | Caleb S. Fuller and Scott Burns

Legend has it that an art collector once asked Michaelangelo to describe the challenges he faced in sculpting one of his most iconic works.

"It was actually quite easy," Michaelangelo drolly replied, "I just chipped away the parts of the stone that didn't look like David."

Homo Economicus – the characterization of people as rationally guided wealth-maximizing missiles in their behavior — never really was more than a textbook stick figure characterization.

The premise of this line of thought is simple: people are driven by self-interest to maximize their personal value defined in financial terms. The underlying assumptions are that only such behavior is rational, and that people are rational.

You Can’t Stand Still for Higher Taxes - The Washington Post

How much tax do the rich pay? More than you think. The share of income tax paid by the top 10%, 5% and 1% of the working population have all gone up in the last 10 years (under a conservative government constantly being accused of letting the rich off scot free).

As independent economist Julian Jessop points out, the percentage shares of total income for each percentile group have not really changed over the last decade. The top 1% made 13.9% of income in 2010. Last year it was 13.1%. The top 5% were on 26.4%. Now it is 26%.

How will a divided government affect taxes? – Center for Public Integrity

The "Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act” would, among other things, rescind $45.6 billion in funding to enforce the tax code for businesses or households making over $400,000.

"We have seen a decade of decline in IRS staffing and a decline in funding that left the agency unable to enforce the tax code, particularly for the wealthiest tax evaders whose returns tend to be more complex," Hanauer said.

Will I Owe Taxes on My Non-Qualified Annuities?

Non-qualified annuities do not pay these taxes, which can give them significantly more capital with which to grow. If you choose you can also have extra time to allow a non-qualified annuity to grow, as these accounts are exempt from required minimum distribution rules.

However, because you paid taxes on your initial investment, you are only taxed on the profits you make off a non-qualified annuity. This means that each payment you receive has two tax components: A portion of your payment is considered your principal and is untaxed.

Americanas, which nosedived into bankruptcy protection last week, is an extreme example of how the arcane practice, also called supply-chain finance or reverse factoring, can take advantage of loose accounting rules to flatter a company's balance sheet.
