The Urban League of Louisiana is pleased to host its 2020 Veterans Small Business Resources Summit online from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 6.
The free summit will include information on resources that are available to veterans and their spouses to start and grow businesses.
Guest speaker will be Joey Strickland, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs.

Louisiana Economic Development will participate in a January 2021 trade mission to Villahermosa, Mexico, joining delegates from the World Trade Center of New Orleans, the Committee of 100 for Economic Development and the Consulate of Mexico in New Orleans.

The A’s have notified about 30% of their business operations employees that they will not return next year after their furloughs end Dec. 31, joining most other big-league teams in making cuts to mitigate financial losses incurred during the pandemic.
With uncertainty over ticket sales next season, the club is reducing its business staff by about 60 positions, primarily in ticket sales, events and marketing. An additional 20-plus employees already have left voluntarily after finding new positions, according to sources, while a number of staffers have been informed that they may resume their jobs in early November.

Struck by how difficult it is for women of color to find venture capital and a network of support for their new businesses, Bell founded Black Girl Ventures. The nonprofit holds competitions across the country where entrepreneurs make a business pitch and online supporters vote with their donations to choose the winner.
