Houghtaling represents the French Quarter restaurant Oceana Grill in the first lawsuit filed against an insurer that won't pay for losses caused by the pandemic.

“This is the only bill I have written that people are endorsing even before it’s introduced,” Maloney said, joined by representatives of business associations for the nonprofit, travel and retail sectors at a press briefing on March 26.
“We want to solve a market failure by allowing companies to purchase business interruption insurance that covers pandemics so that they can stay in business and keep their workers employed when they’re forced to close during public health emergencies,” she said.

MUSKEGON, MI - A local jewelry store sparked a stir on social media last weekend when it announced that it had begun selling groceries in order to qualify as an essential business.
"We are open!" read a May 23 post on the Facebook page for Krautheim & Swanson GemWorks, 4851 Harvey Street. "We now have a small grocery department so we are an 'Essential' business."

Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency company in the U.S., is acquiring the two-year-old, 20-person digital asset trading firm Tagomi for a price between $75 and $100 million, say multiple people familiar with the situation.
Campbell declined to comment on any details of a potential "earn-out" contract, where entrepreneurs are typically guaranteed a large, additional payout if they meet certain goals and remain at the acquiring company for a specified number of years.

Hattiesburg business not allowed to reopen files lawsuit against city
The owners of a trampoline park in Hattiesburg have filed a lawsuit against the city for not being allowed to open even though other facilities, such as restaurants and gyms, are able to relaunch their businesses.
The lawsuit was filed Friday in federal court and names the city of Hattiesburg and Mayor Toby Barker as defendants. The city has until June 12 to respond.
City spokeswoman Samantha McCain said city officials cannot comment because it is pending possible litigation.

An overhaul of small business aid will be the next thing Congress focuses on in hopes of helping employers reopen shops and survive coronavirus pandemic.
Legislation that would give small employers more time to take advantage of federal subsidies for payroll and other costs is expected to pass the House this week.

Oakland County says it will distribute 10,000 COVID-19 safety toolkits which include facemasks, no-touch thermometers, gloves and sanitizer to give small businesses essential materials for reopening and customers confidence they will have a safe experience.
Oakland County Executive David Coulter today said the self-contained "Oakland Together" plastic totes will be taken to 50 locations throughout the county for distribution by downtown development authorities, city managers, economic development officials and chambers of commerce.
