IDAHO FALLS – Many Independence Day celebrations throughout eastern Idaho have been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but a local business wants to help you have your own celebration.
KJ’s Fireworks opened for the season last week. The business is based in Alpine, Wyoming, but its main focus is online orders and deliveries.
Lawsuit seeks to block small business relief, alleging it doesn't follow approved plan - Alaska
A lawsuit is seeking to block the state from sending COVID-19 relief to at least some small businesses that would have benefited from changes announced last week.
Juneau resident Eric Forrer made the filing on Monday in Juneau Superior Court. It's an amendment to the lawsuit he filed in May that led to the Legislature reconvening in Juneau.
At that time, the Legislature approved Gov. Mike Dunleavy's plan to spend federal CARES Act money.

Florida SBDC at FIU Business helps small businesses obtain $27.6 million in COVID-19 aid | FIU
As small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic struggle to hang on, the Florida SBDC at FIU Business (FSBDC) has helped owners in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties navigate disaster assistance programs, getting funds into the business’ hands and developing strategies to weather the crisis.
As of June 18, the FSBDC has helped 273 local businesses obtain $27.6 million in COVID-19 assistance:
“As phased re-openings have begun in Miami-Dade and the Keys, these funds have been essential, along with ongoing guidance on business strategies, to ensure successful re-openings for our small business clients,” said Brian Van Hook, regional director of the SBDC at FIU.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped over 710 points or 2.7 percent. The broader S&P 500 tumbled 2.59 percent, with a decline in all 11 sectors and energy faring the worst, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 2.19 percent, coming off its record high.
DC business owner sues city over fireworks license denial | WTOP
With the Fourth of July around the corner, a D.C. business owner said he’s been denied a license to sell fireworks after doing so for decades.
Peters began selling fireworks as a wholesaler to 27 smaller businesses, the majority of which are Black-owned.
This year, for the first time, his license was denied by the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.
“It said, ‘because of the demonstrations in the District and health and safety concerns, we’re not going to let any licenses out,'” he said.
Application deadline extended for small business grants - Wausau Pilot & Review
MADISON – The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. is extending the deadline until 11:59 p.m. June 26 for small businesses to apply online for the $2,500 We're All In Small Business Grants, WEDC officials announced today.
The program, which will provide $2,500 grants to 30,000 small businesses, is designed to help small businesses recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, while also encouraging them to adopt best practices to keep employees, customers and communities safe.
