Company responsible for Paris 2024 construction revises budget

Solideo, the state-owned company in charge of the construction sites for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, has adjusted its budget after a number of venues for the event were changed by organisers.

The company's financial model for the Games now stands at €1.386 billion (£1.25 billion/$1.63 billion), around €12 million (£10.8 million/$14.1 million) higher than its previous budget.

The slight increase, which ensures Solideo falls under the €1.4 billion (£1.3 billion/$1.6 billion) ceiling set by the state, has been caused by Paris 2024 approving scrapping temporary swimming and volleyball venues as part of plans to reduce the Organising Committee's budget.

BP shares plunge amid 'low-carbon plan' and slipping oil market | Business | The Guardian

BP's share price has tumbled to a 25-year-low as investor jitters over the company's ambitious transformation plans collide with fears for the future of the global oil market.

The company is now worth less than half its £5-a-share value at the start of the year before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, and on Wednesday reached £2.10, the lowest point since March 1995.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) said that oil producers might need to wait until 2023 for the global oil price to return to $50 a barrel given the sharp rise in the number of coronavirus cases affecting the outlook for an oil market recovery.

Australian industry presses for expansion of budget's big business tax concession | Australia

Big business tax concessions could be expanded after warnings from industry the eligibility criteria unintentionally exclude local branches of global groups.

Under changes being considered by Treasury and industry groups, companies earning more than $5bn could gain access to the ability to immediately deduct the cost of capital assets, lowering their tax bill.

Industry is concerned that the $5bn "aggregate turnover" limit means offshore earnings of foreign affiliates will render ineligible companies such as paint manufacturer Dulux and food and beverage company Lion, owned by Japan's Kirin.

With the holiday season around the corner, many Americans aren't planning to factor more Black Friday spending into their budget this year like they've done in years past.

Of those consumers who plan to shop on Black Friday, which will take place Friday, Nov. 22 this year, 28% of those surveyed said they will shop the same as they did last year.

These results come in spite of the poll revealing that more than 1 out of 2 Americans, or 52%, remain excited about shopping the day after Thanksgiving. But as the novel coronavirus pandemic lingers, 49% of consumers surveyed said they intend to conduct their shopping online.

Budget 2021: fuel prices rise and high-emission cars hit

Adopting several of the recommendations of the influential Tax Strategy Group's pre-budget review, Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe has opted to adjust the current emissions-based tax system to allow for the new international testing regime that aims to offer more realistic emissions ratings for all cars.

On motor tax on new cars, Mr Donohoe said the number of Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) bands will rise from 11 at present to 20, applying to all new car sales from January 1st. According to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI), the changes will mean a €1,000 increase in the price of the average new car.

Huawei to sell its budget Honor unit, focus on flagships - report | Light Reading

Huawei is close to selling parts of its budget Honor smartphone unit to the Digital China Group, in a deal which could be worth 15-25 billion yuan ($2.2-$3.7 billion), reports Reuters .

Huawei had in recent days denied recent speculation about the sale, which would effectively end its aspirations to continue dueling Samsung for the title of the world's largest smartphone maker.

Facing new US export measures limiting its access to key components, Huawei apparently is choosing to focus on the higher-margin, premium smartphone market instead.
