Records show police officers’ overtime has increased while the crime-solving rate has declined.
Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard has criticized her officers' overuse of federally funded overtime during the pandemic, but she's been allowing her officers to double their salaries with overtime for years, according to city data obtained by Civil Beat.

Labor Department: Restaurant didn't pay employees correctly
EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The U.S. Department of Labor is ordering the owner of an Evansville restaurant to compensate 21 employees for back wages and overtime pay.

It is being ordered to pay the workers $317,108 in minimum wage and overtime back pay and a $18,291 penalty for being a repeat violator, according to a Labor Department news release.

Lee County Sheriff's Office violated labor laws, jury finds
A Lee County jury has found that the Lee County Sheriff’s Office violated federal law when it failed to pay overtime to Deputy Joseph Caiazza.
Caiazza sought to recover unpaid overtime wages that were denied to him between a period from Dec. 2015 to Aug. 2017, according to a news release from Morgan & Morgan, the law firm that represented Caiazza.
The Fair Labor Standards Act established minimum wages and overtime pay in the private sector and across federal, state and local governments, according to the Department of Labor.
Overtime for Philly workers hit a record $200 million this year.
Mayor Jim Kenney's administration is in the final stages of developing a plan to reduce spending on overtime pay, after the city spent a record $200 million in the last fiscal year.
By the end of the month, Philadelphia is expected to deliver to the state board that oversees city finances a proposal that outlines how it will reduce overtime costs in each department and monitor such outlays. It comes as that board, the Pennsylvania Intergovernmental Cooperation Authority (PICA), has voiced concern that the city exceeded its annual overtime allocation for 10 straight years, and as Philadelphia faces a dire financial situation due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Custodial Services Company Will Pay Employees Back Wages Due to Overtime Violations | Cleaning
Shoreline Building Services LLC—a custodial services company based in St. Joseph, Michigan—will be paying 11 employees US$10,000 in back wages and damages for overtime violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act, WSJM-Radio reports.
The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Michigan found the company had violated the Fair Labor Standards Act "by not paying employees overtime when they worked more than 40 hours in a week," according to WSJM.

For almost a full year since Jan. 1, 2020 — thanks to lawmakers passing the bill and then Gov. Cuomo signing the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act — tens of thousands of New York farm workers have been protected under the same labor laws as everyone else.
