That’s following a U.S. Department of Labor investigation at Travel Lite Incorporated’s New Paris and Syracuse, Indiana, production facilities.
Investigators say the company violated the federal Fair Labor Standards Act when it told 25 salaried workers they were exempt from receiving overtime. It also paid more than 100 hourly production workers flat rates for each day, regardless of the number of hours worked that week.
Patricia Lewis, U.S. DOL wage and hour division district director, said she encourages employers to contact her office in Indianapolis to avoid similar overtime violations in the future.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Days before Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings told officers he didn't think there was enough money available to offer extra pay for those working the third shift, nine members of CMPD command staff received raises of at least $10,000, according to newly obtained city salary records.
The records show, while some of the city's lowest-paid police officers received minimal pay bumps, a CMPD major collected an $18,000 raise. As WCNC Charlotte previously reported , large equity adjustments for some lieutenants, captains and majors took effect Dec. 5 without rank and file officers knowing.
Weymouth restaurant Sweet Lemons sued by feds for wage theft
WEYMOUTH — The U.S. Department of Labor is suing a Weymouth restaurant owner over claims she bilked her employees out of overtime pay, kept their tips, interfered in the investigation into the wage theft and retaliated against employees who cooperated with the investigation.
In the lawsuit, Wilkinson said Neampong kept the tips from the front-of-the-house staff between March 2018 and November 2019.
Wilkinson said Neampong paid her employees a flat rate per shift, in cash, regardless of how many hours worked, a practice documented from 2016 to 2019.

In late 2019, the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division issued a final rule regarding the threshold amount of salary necessary to exempt an employer from the obligation to pay overtime. The threshold since 2004 was $455 per week or $23,660 per year. In 2016, the Obama administration proposed a change to that rule to increase the threshold to $47,476.
