Five current and former MTA employees have been accused of fraud for submitting false reports of overtime work -- collectively earning more than $1 million in fraudulently-obtained overtime pay, according to federal prosecutors.
Thomas Caputo, 56, Joseph Ruzzo, 56, John Nugent, 50, and Joseph Balestra, 51 -- four current and former longtime employees of the Long Island Rail Road who reside throughout New York -- and Michael Gundersen, 42 of Manalapan, New Jersey, a longtime employee of the New York City Transit Authority, were charged with one count federal program fraud for submitting time reports falsely claiming to have worked hundreds of hours of overtime that they did not in fact work, Acting United States

Overtime pay, changeover to Sinohydro among concerns of Aurora mines workers -Hamilton - Stabroek
Issues of overtime payment and being "handed over" to a contracted company were among the concerns highlighted to Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, by local employees of Zijin Mining, the new owners of Aurora Gold Mines (AGM).
Hamilton along with a delegation from his ministry visited the mines yesterday to gain a firsthand understanding of working conditions and operations at the mines.
"I recommended urgent mechanisms to be implemented to iron out grievances between workers and management. Management conceded to the recommendations and promised to have them implemented by the end of January next year," Hamilton said.

Farmers to Cuomo: Don't Drop Farm Workers Overtime Threshold
Last year, Governor Cuomo signed into law the Farm Laborers Fair Labor Practices Act (FLFLPA), which provided farm workers with long-awaited new benefits, including overtime pay.
The new law also created a wage board that has held six hearings this year (a hearing scheduled for today has been postponed).
The board is responsible for determining whether the new 60-hour-per-week overtime threshold for farm workers should be either sustained, or lowered.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff is and was employed in Los Angeles County, Calif., and was an "employee" as defined by the FLSA, California Labor Code, and relevant California Industrial Wage Commission (IWC) orders. Moreover, the complaint noted that Prime Now has been an "employer" as defined by the FLSA, Labor Code, and IWC.
The plaintiff stated that she was hired by the company in April 2020 as a non-exempt employee. As a result, the plaintiff claimed that "she was entitled to be paid at least minimum wage for every hour she worked and overtime as appropriate based on her 'regular rate of pay.
Omaha-based pizzeria ordered to pay back wages/child labor fines
OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) — The United States Department of Labor (USDOL) said Omaha-based Pitch Pizzeria has been ordered to pay 55 employees $93,304 of back wages and also a $2,049 penalty for "violating the child labor provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)."
During an investigation into the company, the USDOL found locations in Omaha, Nebraska and Scottsdale, Arizona to be in violation. It said Pitch failed to "include employee bonuses in the calculation when determining workers' overtime rates." By failing to do so, Pitch paid employees overtime rates that were lower than those required by law said the USDOL.
