Flexera One identifies legacy spend waste to free up budget for cloud - SiliconANGLE

Tracking technology spend has always been a complicated task. Now add the increased complexity of the information technology environment, the imperative to digitally transform, and the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it's easy to see how many companies are letting cloud spend get out of control.

Flexera is known for its “ State of the Cloud ” and other industry reports, but the company also has a long legacy of software asset management. This puts it in a great position to advise customers on optimizing technology spend, according to Godfrey. By creating a new IT management category around technology value optimization , known as TVO, Flexera has set out to bridge the strategic gap between IT service management and financial management.

Disney to Reveal Plans to Turbocharge Streaming Offerings - The New York Times

Some big-budget Disney movies will continue to have exclusive runs in theaters. (The "Lion King" project, directed by Barry Jenkins and focused on Mufasa's back story, is a good bet.) Others will debut online. (That is where "Pinocchio" is headed.) All will ultimately serve one goal, which is strengthening Disney+, the company's flagship streaming service.

At a time when streaming is becoming cuttingly competitive — and some of Disney's traditional businesses are struggling — Disney hopes to use the virtual event to dazzle Wall Street: Here is a 97-year-old company making a jump to direct-to-consumer hyperspace.

How Virtual Cards Help Budget | PYMNTS.com

The ongoing pandemic poses challenges that have amplified businesses' need to digitize their payment operations. Some firms have better adjusted to new digital tendencies than others, especially when it comes to keeping track of B2B payments and spend management .

"The [pandemic] has brought attention to the need to review expenses ... so having a system or tool that makes it very simple to ... provide that oversight and accountability and transparency into what they are spending is crucial now," Jenkins said. "[There is] a more real-time need to review expenses, and I am not sure that change is going away anytime soon."

States Try to Rescue Small Businesses as U.S. Aid Is Snarled - The New York Times

With the economic recovery faltering and federal aid stalled in Washington, state governments are stepping in to try to help small businesses survive the pandemic winter.

But there is a limit to what states can do. The pandemic has ravaged budgets, driving up costs and eroding tax revenues. And unlike the federal government, most states cannot run budget deficits.

"We have done what we can do to pump money into small businesses so that people can continue to work," said Gov. Mike DeWine of Ohio, a Republican. "From the jobs point of view and the economy point of view and the workers' point of view and small businesses, we've got to get that help from the federal government. That's the only place we can get it."

Councilors floated ideas for grant programs, subsidizing restaurants' participation in delivery services and targeted rent and mortgage assistance for businesses, provided by the city.

Chevron Announces $14 Billion Capital and Exploratory Budget for 2021 | Business Wire

"Chevron remains committed to capital discipline with a 2021 capital budget and longer-term capital outlook that are well below our prior guidance," said Chevron Chairman and CEO Michael Wirth. "With our major restructuring behind us and Noble Energy integration on track, we're prepared to execute this program with discipline."

Chevron's capital guidance of $14 to $16 billion annually from 2022 to 2025 is significantly lower than its previous guidance of $19 to $22 billion, which excluded Noble Energy. During this time period, as capital is expected to decrease for a major expansion in Kazakhstan, the company expects to increase investments in a number of Chevron's advantaged assets, including its world class position in the Permian, other unconventional basins, and the Gulf of Mexico.
