The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued an opinion letter addressing how to properly calculate overtime premiums for employees who are paid on a piece-rate basis.
Opinion letters describe how the agency would enforce statutes and regulations in specific circumstances presented by an employer, worker or other party who requests the opinion. On Nov. 30, the department clarified that the employer that requested the letter may use the piece rate to cover productive and nonproductive hours, even though the employer didn't have a formal agreement with the employees to use such a calculation.

New Labour Code: White-collar Employees To Receive Overtime Pay
Professionals who put in extra hours at work would be eligible for overtime once the Code on Wages, 2019, comes into force. The Code widens the purview of overtime pay to include all employees, including managerial staff.
The Code on Wages also has provisions for minimum and timely payment of wages to all the workers in India. It consolidates four laws relating to wages and bonus, namely - Payment of Wages Act, 1936, Minimum Wages Act, 1948, Payment of Bonus Act, 1965 and Equal Remuneration Act, 1976.

Part-time workers to be offered more hours but without overtime under proposed industrial
Employers would be able to offer part-time workers extra hours without paying them more than their regular rates under the Federal Government's latest proposed workplace changes.
Normal penalty rates would still apply and the part-time employee would need to be working at least 16 regular hours per week, with a shift length of at least three hours.
"These reforms are ground-breaking and crucial when it comes to resolving a trio of ills in the current labour market — underemployment, the need for more flexibility and a desire by some employees for more permanent employment," Mr Porter said.
