Millennial Money: How to plan and budget for DIY goals now | Business | qconline.com

Did you find yourself cooped up during the pandemic-induced stay-at-home orders, blankly staring at the walls of your house, longing for more?

Maybe you wanted to travel or go out to dinner with friends. Or maybe you just wanted a fresh coat of paint on that wall.

If you found yourself in the latter camp, you had company: When the home improvement platform Houzz surveyed 1,000 homeowners who use the site in April, nearly 80% said they're considering remodeling changes that would help them enjoy their houses more. And sales at Home Depot were up 7% in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period last year, a possible sign that consumers were already spending more on home improvement materials.

Facebook boycott: Eddie Bauer, Patagonia join #StopHateForProfit push

Eddie Bauer, the U.S. clothing store chain, and Ben & Jerry's, the ice cream maker, on Tuesday became the latest companies to jump on board, joining The North Face, Patagonia, REI, Mozilla and Upwork in addition to about 100 smaller companies said to be committed.

"I think the message has been sent and I believe other companies are going to join in,'' Derrick Johnson, president and CEO of the NAACP, told USA TODAY. "I think it's important for corporate America to stand up in this moment, especially when you have a platform as powerful as Facebook and there are no guardrails of accountability.''

Mboweni wants SA to move to a zero-based budget - here's what that will mean

The new budget will have to reflect billions in lost tax revenue due to the lockdown, and large sums of extra money – not budgeted for in February – that government committed to support the economy and its citizens during the crisis.

Mboweni has warned that South Africa is now on track to have a debt burden bigger than its current GDP by 2024 , which means that it may have to ask the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for help.

Usually budgets work like this: The previous year’s budget is used as a starting point, and allocations to each department is increased or (very rarely) cut.

Crestwood schedules special meeting for second budget vote | Times Leader

WRIGHT TWP. — Crestwood School Board has scheduled a special meeting today at 6 p.m. to vote a second time on the 2020-21 budget. A posting on the district website notes the meeting will be held in person in the secondary campus auditorium.

The board has made big swings on the tax-hike issue all year. In January it voted on a preliminary budget with a 4.81% increase, but Business Manager Peter Bard said at the time the goal was to reduce or eliminate that hike by the time a final budget was approved. The early vote was necessary under state law because the proposed increase exceeded a state limit, which for Crestwood this year is 3.2%.

Police training budget increased - News - Dover Post - Dover, DE

Before Dover City Council approved the budget in a 7-2 vote, City Manager Donna Mitchell introduced a last minute change. An additional $83,300 will be added to the budget for police training and consulting.

“I didn’t feel that stating we would find the money in the upcoming budget would send the right message, and it needed to be taken care of now,” she said.

The police training budget went from the recommended $55,000 to $88,300, about a 60% increase. The consulting budget was increased to more than five times the recommended amount when the city added $50,000 to help bring in experts for onsite officer training.
