LAPD to stop overtime pay, replace it with compensation time

The move comes as the city is scheduled to take up a request to cut the cash-strapped department's budget by $100 million

Chief Michel Moore said in a memorandum that despite a multibillion budget, the LAPD is so cash-strapped that any overtime earned from June 7 onward will be paid out in compensation time.

With the entire department of nearly 10,000 officers working every day for a week since the mobilization May 30, the LAPD burned through more than it allotted even for emergencies.

Bed Bath & Beyond defeats managers' overtime pay appeal - Reuters

A federal appeals court on Monday upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit accusing Bed Bath & Beyond of underpaying department managers, saying the retailer properly used the “fluctuating workweek” method to calculate overtime.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said the plaintiffs, a group of department managers, did not show that Bed Bath violated the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.

Nevada's minimum wage, overtime rates increase next month

CARSON CITY (KTNV) — The Office of the Labor Commissioner is reminding Nevada employers that the minimum wage will increase effective July 1.

Assembly Bill 456, passed by the 2019 Nevada Legislature, increases the minimum wage in increments of 75 cents annually through 2024.

Going Broke in Hollywood: TV Assistants Reel From Pandemic Pay Cuts | Vanity Fair

That's a Hollywood assistant describing her reaction when her boss let her know that the studio was jeopardizing her income in ways she found "cruel." This assistant, one of more than 20 sources that Vanity Fair interviewed for this story, is an LGBTQ woman of color who works in TV. She doesn't blame the showrunner for the kind of reductions that assistants all over the industry have been forced to accept in the wake of the pandemic.

Last week, at least 15 showrunners at WBTV banded together to fight for them, and the good news is, days later, the studio relented and promised to up hourly compensation for assistants (more on that later). But assistants in the TV divisions of NBCUniversal and Sony Pictures Entertainment say that their take-home pay has been slashed as well. Not all support staff are affected in the same ways, but the stress and pain caused by the recent waves of cuts to take-home pay are real and

Baltimore council approves $22M in cuts to police spending

The council voted 13-2 on Monday to approve a $3 billion operating budget that includes some reductions to the Baltimore Police Department's $550 million budget, according to news outlets.

Under the proposal, which now heads to the mayor's office, spending on police overtime pay would be cut by about $7 million across five different departments, the police marine unit would be disbanded to save a total of about $2 million and the department's mounted unit would also be dissolved, freeing up about $550,000, among other changes, news outlets said.
