For the current year, you can contribute up to $3,550 to an HSA as an individual, or up to $7,100 on behalf of a family. If you're 55 or older, you can make a $1,000 catch-up contribution as well, similar to the catch-up allowance offered with IRAs or 401(k)s.

Midlands Voices: Shadowy political money distorts our political system | Opinion | omaha.com

The writer, of Lincoln, is a Democrat who has served as a staff member in state and federal government.

Unfortunately, a May 23 Midlands Voices piece mischaracterized Kara's stance on rejecting corporate money. I am writing as her campaign chairperson to set the record straight.

Here's the problem: Special interest groups representing large corporations have too much influence in our political system. How do they do it?

First, they finance political campaigns through corporate political action committees (PACs) spending hundreds of millions of dollars to get their preferred candidates elected. This year alone the fossil fuel industry has spent $30 million on political races. Corporate PACs can donate almost twice as much as individuals to federal political campaigns. This system prevents middle- and working-class people from being candidates in elections that routinely cost millions of dollars.

Money from state intended to improve schools must go to schools | Manchester Ink Link

It has been a strange year to be sure and not just because of COVID-19. In August, the NH State Legislature and Governor Sununu agreed to appropriate $139 million in Fiscal Disparity Aid to NH Schools in its bi-annual budget. This one-time money went to school districts with the most need — Manchester’s portion was $11 million spread over two years.

Last year Manchester schools were appropriated $3.25 million of the additional $3.5 million in additional State funds and it was put to use to directly support our students and teachers. For example, we purchased a new district-wide K-8 reading program and bolstered professional development training to support teachers using the math curriculum we adopted last year.

Unlike during past economic downturns, Americans have money this time

An unusual phenomenon is occurring during the sharpest downturn in U.S. history: Americans have money in their pockets.

Economic and banking data are revealing that Americans are earning and saving money during the coronavirus crisis, thanks to unprecedented stimulus from the federal government. The rescue funds could be responsible for facilitating the quickest recession in history.

Consumer spending and savings are up from last year on a per-client basis at digital banking company Chime, which has more than 6.5 million accounts. Chime is the largest of a new breed of branchless U.S. banks that offer no-fee accounts, free overdrafts and early direct deposits on paychecks.

VERNON TOWNSHIP — Vernon Township will receive much more Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) money than it usually receives, thanks to an additional allocation being sent out in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On top of the $109,321 for the standard fiscal year allocation, the township is expecting to receive $65,082 as part of a CDBG program implemented in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. This equates to a combined $174,403 in total.

It's not too late to research and join a community-supported agriculture, or CSA, program in your area. As a member, you'll receive farm-fresh organic produce — whatever that farm produces — regularly throughout the spring and summer.

The fee you pay upfront typically works out to about 50% off supermarket retail prices. Don't delay, as all CSAs have participation limits based on their projected harvests. Visit the Local Harvest website, which has a database of more than 4,000 CSAs throughout the U.S. There's bound to be one close to you.

What Is A Money Market Account And How Does It Work? – Forbes Advisor

If you've ever opened a traditional savings account at a local bank, you probably realized quickly that it takes a lot of money and time to earn much in the way of interest.

Money market accounts present a way for consumers to accelerate interest-earning through potentially higher-yielding rates. The national average interest rate for savings accounts under $100,000 as reported by the FDIC is currently just 0.06%, while money market accounts sit at 0.09%. That doesn't seem like much, but keep in mind that the best money market accounts offer up to 1.30% to 1.51% APY.

A lot of money at stake...Athletics will pay minor leaguers...Durant won't play | | fox5vegas.com

NEW YORK (AP) — An analysis by The Associated Press shows the huge amount of money Major League Baseball and its players are fighting over to start the coronavirus-delayed season. The New York Yankees, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers would each save more than $100 million as part of management's proposal than they would under the players' plan.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Oakland Athletics owner John Fisher has decided to pay minor league players after all while saying he made a mistake. Club spokeswoman Catherine Aker confirmed Fisher's plans that the San Francisco Chronicle first reported. Fisher also is establishing a fund to help furloughed employees. Minor leaguers will receive their $400 weekly stipends through what would have been the conclusion of their season. Fisher's family founded the clothing retailer Gap Ltd.
