To paraphrase a line from the real estate industry, small businesses, hit by the economic impact of the coronavirus, have had to pivot, pivot, pivot to survive.
Many have made adjustments to the way they conduct their businesses — or have shifted their approaches entirely. In the face of a truly catastrophic financial environment, they have used the creativity that spurred them forward as entrepreneurs to adapt to a business environment no one could have foreseen.
Quite a lot has been going on:
CMPD: Customers not wearing face coverings in businesses could be cited for trespassing
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Deputy Police Chief Jeff Estes said the department will not enforce or write citations for individuals caught not wearing a mask.
However, he said there is a provision that says officers can cite people who get disruptive in businesses that won't provide services to those who aren't wearing face coverings.
"I suspect there will be issues with people who don't agree with the face-covering mandates and will get into disputes with businesses that are complying by the mandate," Estes said.
Google's Phone app could soon tell you why a business is calling you - The Verge
Google's Phone app appears to be getting a new Verified Calls feature that will show you a business' name, logo, and the reason it's calling you. News of the feature first appeared on a Google support page that was spotted by Android Police . The feature relies on a business supplying its phone number, your phone number, and the reason for its call directly to Google, which pushes this information to the Phone app.
It's a feature that has the potential to be enormously helpful, not just for working out who's calling you, but for knowing when a call is even worth picking up in the first place. I'm happy to pick up the phone if my bank is calling to let me know about a problem with my account, for example, and this feature could be another way to help weed out marketing calls and other spam.

Boston Bars Still Shuttered Struggle to Stay in Business – NBC Boston
While bars that serve food can offer alcohol, the bars themselves cannot reopen until the final phase of the governor's reopening plan, which requires either a vaccine or effective treatment for the deadly pathogen.
"If we don't get help, we'll go out of business," said Jackson Cannon, bar director at Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square. "We've really lost half a year, but we're being expected to pay rents and taxes based on values that don't really exist anymore."

This year's Juneteenth arrived amid mass protests against systemic racism and police brutality across the United States. Juneteenth is a celebration, but also a reminder of the deep inequities that still exist in our country.
