Before President Trump signed the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act into law, the United States imposed the highest corporate income tax rate in the developed world. Likewise, the tax cuts enacted in North Carolina over the past decade have relieved the Tar Heel State of its dubious distinction as home to the highest income tax rates, both personal and corporate, in the Southeast (that dishonor now goes to South Carolina, though the Governor there wants to fix that).

The hearing comes after The New York Times published an article late last year reporting that the Treasury Department issued regulations about the international provisions of the GOP tax law that will allow companies to have smaller tax bills than had been anticipated when Trump signed the law, following a lobbying blitz by corporations.
