Failure of some oil and gas companies to pay their Alberta municipal taxes is putting many rural municipalities in a financial bind.
As of last month, rural municipalities had approximately $173 million owing in unpaid taxes from oil and gas companies. Some haven't paid because they've gone into receivership or are bankrupt, but others still have functioning wells and are simply not paying.

LAKEPORT — More than halfway through the 2019-2020 fiscal year, the Lake County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a list of mid-year budget alterations that include routine changes alongside some significant one-time costs and revenues.
The board approved the receipt of $7.7 million in revenues that go beyond those budgeted for at the beginning of this fiscal year, including about $200,000 that has gone into the county's general fund. The board also approved roughly $4 million in allocations, including nearly $700,000 from the general fund.

In a new first, the U.S. and South Korea cancelled military drills over fears related to the virus, AP reported Wednesday evening. This covers all drills for the first six months of the year. "Experts say the postponement of the drills was inevitable because the potential spread of the virus into military barracks could significantly weaken military readiness." More here .
