Planning on Moving During Retirement?

Although many older adults choose to stay put during retirement, nearly 40% of Americans age 55 and older say they'd like to move at least once more, according to a survey from Freddie Mac.

Say, for example, you and your spouse typically take retirement account withdrawals that add up to a combined income of $30,000 per year but are moving to a new city where you'll need to take larger withdrawals that will make your combined income increase to $45,000 per year. In this scenario, you could go from paying no federal taxes on your benefits to paying taxes on a substantial portion of your benefits.

Marijuana bill heads to House vote amid concerns from some growers and advocates - VTDigger

The marijuana tax and regulate bill is finally headed to a floor vote in the House after two years of tinkering in Democrat-led committees facing resistance from Gov. Phil Scott, who hasn’t made a commitment to support the initiative.

Scott’s not the only skeptic. Critics have two main objections to S.54 . Small growers say the proposal presents too many barriers to the legal market. And the group Justice for All says the legislation does not rectify decades of marijuana criminalization that has disproportionately impacted people of color.

More tax reform likely after election, say tax executives | Accounting Today

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 made the most far-reaching changes in the Tax Code in over 30 years, but it's far from the last word on tax reform, with 97 percent of corporate tax executives polled by BDO USA predicting more changes will come after the November election.

While 88 percent of the tax executives polled believe a global framework is needed for taxing the digital economy, they named understanding the impact of the ongoing work of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development on digital taxation as their top international tax concern this year.

Iowa's golden opportunity for pro-growth tax reform | Opinion | globegazette.com

The 2018 tax reform law lowered the top individual income tax rate to 8.53 percent in 2019 and the top corporate tax rate is scheduled to be lowered from 12 percent (the nation's highest) to 9.8 percent by 2021. In 2023, the top personal income tax rate is scheduled to fall to 6.5 percent if a revenue triggers are met. Governor Reynolds has proposed the Invest in Iowa Act, which calls for further personal income tax relief, among other tax reforms.

The Invest in Iowa Act also calls for a 1 cent sales tax increase, which 3/8ths of the proposed increase would be dedicated to the Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation trust fund, which Iowa voters approved in 2010. Both Governor Reynolds and free market legislative leaders are arguing that any sales tax increase must be offset by actual tax rate reductions.
