Lehigh University debuts one-year master's program for non-accounting majors | Accounting

The program is aimed at students who don't have accounting degrees but possess a basic knowledge of economics and accounting. Students will complete 36 credits and an eight-week paid internship in public accounting during the spring semester and stay on Lehigh's campus throughout the summer and fall semesters. The school states that graduates of the program will ultimately have the knowledge to sit for the CPA Exam.

Reagor Dykes accounting associate takes plea deal, admits her role in fraud | KLBK | KAMC |

AMARILLO, Texas — Andrea Kate Phillips appeared in federal court in Amarillo on Tuesday as part of her plea bargain related to Reagor Dykes. Phillips signed a plea agreement in late January for a charge of misprision of a felony.

Phillips admitted in court records that she was an accounting associate in the Reagor Dykes corporate office.

"Phillips routinely falsified the dates that vehicles were sold in order to make [Ford Motor Credit Company] and its auditor believe that such vehicles were not being sold out of trust," court records said.

In accounting software provider LeaseQuery's first benchmarking analysis of lease liabilities, it found balance sheet liabilities increased nearly 16 times as operating leases came onto the balance sheet for the first time upon adoption of ASC 842, Leases.

The standard requires recognition of a right-of-use asset and a corresponding lease liability at lease commencement. Private companies will have to comply with ASC 842 by the end of this year.

U.K. Regulator Asks Accounting Firms to Wall-Off Audit Practice, Install Separate Board - WSJ

A U.K. regulator for audit and accounting is asking professional services firms to ringfence their audit practices and put in place independent boards amid increased concerns around audit quality in Britain.

The Financial Reporting Council this week sent a letter to the seven biggest U.K. audit firms, consisting of the Big Four—Deloitte, Ernst & Young, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers—as well as BDO, Grant Thornton and Mazars, asking them to make changes to how they run their audit business to reduce conflicts of interest.

Norfolk accounting firm invests in on-site art gallery - Inside Business

A wall at an accounting firm's downtown Norfolk office has been transformed into an art gallery thanks to help from an arts nonprofit.

Wall, Einhorn & Chernitzer had a permanent collection of local art created by artists from d'Art Center installed in its lobby in mid-February. d'Art Center is a nonprofit located in the Norfolk arts district that provides arts education and programming to the community.
