University to Shorten Quarters, Lengthen Thanksgiving Break Starting in Autumn 2021
Currently, quarters comprise nine-and-a-half weeks of class, and students have two days off for Thanksgiving. These changes are part of a set of recommendations for adjustments to the quarter system following a committee review of the current calendar.
“These adjustments result from a comprehensive review of the academic calendar by a committee composed of faculty, academic staff, and undergraduate and graduate students, who worked at the charge of [College] Dean John W. Boyer with support from the Office of the Provost,” Lee wrote. The Faculty Senate and College Council, as well as other deans throughout the University, have also reviewed the changes.

"I thought I was going to clean a normal house, with some dust," she says. "I didn't know about the ash."
When Sandra arrived at the house, she discovered that her employer's home was still standing. Their neighbor's house, however, had burned down. She says the fire had coated her employer's property in a thick layer of ash and debris, which had saturated the family's beds and furniture.

NYC School-Safety Cops Earn Collective Status in Wage Suit
The City of New York and the NYPD must face a Fair Labor Standards Act collective of more than 3,000 school-safety agents who say they weren't paid for pre-shift or meal-period work, after a federal court granted final certification.
The agents have persuasively shown that their claims arise out of the same timekeeping and overtime policies prohibiting them from getting paid for unscheduled overtime work done before shifts and during meal periods, Judge Lorna G. Schofield of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said Wednesday.
