At a time when the city’s economy and business community are reeling, City Hall is slashing the staff at theh agency charged with attracting jobs and investment here.
Officials at World Business Chicago are confirming that, due to a drop in revenue, they have eliminated nine of the agency’s staff 39 positions. Five staffers were released on Aug. 1, and four vacant positions will not be filled.

Amtrak report says effort to transform their section of Moynihan Train Hall delayed and over
A report from Amtrak claims they have not held up their end of the bargain renovating the Farley Building – soon to be the Moynihan Train Hall – and the project is fraught with cost overruns and delays.
The situation is so far gone, the company’s Office of Inspector General does not have faith that the project will meet Governor Andrew Cuomo’s December 2020 completion deadline – a central facet in his 2020 state of the state address .
The $1.6 billion project included $106 million from Amtrak and allowed them to design their own space in Moynihan, designed to be a pressure release valve to the well over capacity Penn Station. The largest transit hub in the nation, Penn sees about 650,000 travelers on a daily basis on the subways, Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit and the Amtrak. Each has their own stake, but Amtrak may be the only one with delays.

Redirect military budgets to tackle climate change and pandemics

The United States, China, India, Russia and Saudi Arabia together accounted for almost two-thirds (62%) of global military expenditure in 2019, and US, Indian and Russian rates of infection are some of the highest so far, with the United States topping both lists.

Business lessons from a small virus on a big planet | Greenbiz
The power of this microscopic being is astonishing: The mass of all the coronaviruses combined on our planet may just be a small fraction of a gram — less than a butterfly wing. Yet, it has changed everything, far beyond the classical "butterfly effect."
One measurable impact of the pandemic is the temporary reduction in human demand on nature. Ecological footprint accounting quantifies this demand by adding up all the human demands that compete for biologically productive area: to produce food, fiber, timber; to absorb excess CO 2 from fossil fuel burning; to accommodate roads and houses, etc.
For online grocery delivery, add fees to the list
With a 10-month-old baby to think about, my husband and I have kept trips to the store to a minimum out of an abundance of caution during the pandemic. We're fortunate to have just about every grocery delivery service at our disposal — and we've taken advantage.
In between orders from Costco, Whole Foods, Imperfect Foods and more, I've noticed our virtual shopping habit is changing how we budget . We're accounting for new grocery-related expenses. We're also more deliberate about what we buy.
