374 Seattle Police Department employees made at least $200,000 last year; here’s how | The

When the City Council started digging into the Seattle Police Department’s $409 million annual budget last month, having pledged to redirect much of the money to community solutions, a crucial truth quickly emerged.

But what the council members have yet to review is an employee-by-employee breakdown of police pay. Those records, requested from City Hall by The Seattle Times, shed additional light on how the department spends taxpayers’ dollars.

Labor department claims pay issues at Mid-Missouri Dunkin' stores - ABC17NEWS

The federal labor department claims a chain of mid-Missouri doughnut stores have not properly paid its workers.

The U.S. Department of Labor filed a lawsuit in federal court Monday against three Dunkin' stores and one of its owners, Anup Thakkar. The stores include two Columbia locations, on South Providence Road and Elm Street, and one Jefferson City spot on Missouri Boulevard.

The lawsuit claims the stores have not paid employees above the state's previous minimum wage of $7.25 an hour since March 2017. The department also alleges that the restaurants did not pay workers a proper overtime wage and that owners did not keep "adequate and accurate" records of employee's wages and hours worked.

Quite a lot has been going on:

Pay guarantees ate into Asbury Automotive Group's earnings — and that's OK by CEO David

As the coronavirus crisis intensified in early spring, Asbury Automotive Group Inc. executives made a decision that ended up dinging profit levels in the second quarter — but one they don't regret.

The public dealership group in Duluth, Ga., revamped its pay plans in a way intended to preserve compensation for commission-based employees. Pay guarantees for those employees cost the retailer an additional $8 million during the quarter that otherwise would have fallen to Asbury's bottom line. The company on July 28 reported adjusted second-quarter net income of $48.7 million.

Overtime at California's prisons is swelling | CalMatters

Hybrid nurse-officers are being phased out statewide, but many earned six-figure salaries. One in Vacaville more than tripled his salary.

Prison psychiatric nurses with badges and guns — who exist only in California — clocked $6.7 million in overtime last year, more than a decade after a federally appointed receiver decided the dual role should be eliminated.

According to salary data obtained by CalMatters, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation paid overtime to approximately 250 employees who functioned as both nurses and correctional officers at three psychiatric programs in the prison system.

To defund the LAPD, L.A.'s budget has a long way to go - Los Angeles Times

For much of this year, activists across Los Angeles staged protests and flooded city meetings with angry phone calls, demanding that Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City Council zero out funding for the Police Department.

"We want the dismantling of the LAPD entirely," filmmaker Carter Moon, 27, said during one budget hearing. "We are working toward abolition, and every day you are just getting in our way."

Yet even with those reductions, LAPD spending will remain at roughly $3 billion, about the same as last year. The department is still on track to consume 51% of the city's "unrestricted" revenue — taxes and other city funds the mayor and council can spend any way they want, according to budget analysts.

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme - from July to October 2020 - Lexology

An additional point to note is that the number of employees an employer can claim for in any claim period post 1 July cannot exceed the maximum number it has claimed for under any previous claim under the existing scheme, although this may differ if you have any employee returning from statutory family leave or a returning military reservist (see below).

* * *

The guidance makes it clear that employee and union representatives can carry out their duties and activities in relation to individual and collective representation of employees and workers whilst they are furloughed, as long as they do not provide services to or generate revenue for their employer. This will be particularly relevant to employers considering the need to commence or continue TUPE or redundancy consultations.
