He was working the second shift as an intake officer at the Cumberland County Jail, booking people who come in between 3 p.m. and 11 p.m. The night before, the jail didn’t have enough staff for the third shift, so his supervisors said he needed to stay until 7 a.m. He was exhausted when he got home to Waterboro that morning, but he barely slept before he needed to return to the jail that afternoon.
Louisville GE Appliances workers undertake strike authorization vote
Seeking higher pay and lower health insurance fees, local GE Appliances union workers had a chance to make their feelings known on Monday with a strike authorization vote.
Voting started at 5 a.m. and will last through 6 p.m. at the IUE-CWA Local 83761 union hall at 5153 Poplar Level Road. Those taking part in the vote will go through a drive-thru, amid coronavirus concerns, and will answer verbally whether or not they would support a strike, according to a public letter from local union president Dino Driskell . Voters will need to present an ID or badge.

Labor Dept. Offers Overtime Guidance to Employers With Remote Workers
The U.S. Labor Department is reminding employers that they must make a reasonable effort to keep track of all hours worked by non-exempt employees — even those working varied hours from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The department’s Wage and Hour Division on Monday issued a bulletin offering guidance regarding employer’s obligations under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Bureau said it is hoping to clear up any confusion because of the large number of workers who are now telecommuting.
