The Tax Foundation' s International Tax Competitiveness Index (ITCI) measures the degree to which the 36 OECD countries' tax systems promote competitiveness through low tax burdens on business investment and neutrality through a well-structured tax code. The ITCI considers more than 40 variables across five categories: Corporate Taxes, Individual Taxes, Consumption Taxes, Property Taxes, and International Tax Rules.

New York DA says Trump, his taxes do not deserve extra protection | News | Al Jazeera

The Manhattan district attorney on Friday said in a court filing that Donald Trump was not entitled to greater protection from a grand-jury subpoena for his tax returns just because he is president.

District Attorney Cyrus Vance was responding to an argument by Trump's lawyers that the president deserves extra protection from what he called harassment.

Vance last August issued a grand jury subpoena to Trump's accounting firm, Mazars USA, demanding eight years of his business and personal returns and other documents.

Tri-Citians paid half their property taxes in April. October could be another story

The property owners of Benton and Franklin counties didn't miss a beat when it was time to pay property tax bills on some $31.5 billion in real estate in April, when the first of two payment deadlines came due.

The county treasurers who collect taxes say collections were normal, despite widespread economic challenges inflicted by the Covid-19 pandemic and the stay-home orders it inspired.

Biden and Harris's joint appearance on Wednesday seemed to 'reset' the Biden campaign, jokingly deemed hunkered down in a basement where he reads from cue cards to avoid gaffes. Harris's speech, which followed Biden's "Build Back Better" speech, took a cue from the Democratic Party's macro playbook and simply blamed Trump's "failure of leadership" for the reason why millions of people are unemployed.

Coronavirus; California's economic fallout sparks wealth tax proposals

A "CEO tax" targeting San Francisco's most unequal salaries. A signature-gathering campaign to tax Palo Alto's millionaires. And now, a new statewide bill that would levy a yearly 0.4 percent tax on every Californian worth more than $30 million.

California is suddenly reckoning with an unusually heated debate over taxing the rich as the coronavirus’ economic impact has opened up a $54 billion budget deficit and ratched up the gulf between those at the top of the economic ladder and those at the bottom.

Payroll Tax Deferral Confuses Businesses | NAM

The problem: Employers are worried about the administrative burden. Plus, they're concerned they may be liable for the taxes of employees who have changed jobs. And lastly, if Congress refuses to forgive the taxes, companies will be on the hook for a huge tax bill next year.

While companies await guidance on how to implement the President's executive order, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said in an interview on Wednesday that he can't force firms to stop withholding those taxes. Some tax experts say that companies will be disinclined to take the chance.
