SAN FRANCISCO – On the steps of San Francisco City Hall, small business owners, particularly those who run gyms and hair salons came out to protest the current COVID-19 restrictions, saying they need to open up now to have a chance at survival.
“We haven't had any business, we've had about a 80 percent loss,” said Michael Jigalin owner of Jigalin Fitness.
Around the city, it’s hard to miss the ‘For Lease’ signs and plywood on windows. According to the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, 1300 small businesses are not in operation right now.

"Having the setback of everything that's occurred, it hits us differently," Brack said. "It hits us personally."
Brack owns Really Good Beer Stop in Jacksonville Beach. She said they are taking a leap of faith by opening a new location in Nocatee during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mint Cannabis, originally from Arizona, is opening its first Michigan store in Kalamazoo later this month, said Joey Kejbou, co-founder of Mint Cannabis Michigan.
The 3,500-square-foot store located at 730 E. Cork Street has been completely gutted and renovated from floor to ceiling, Kejbou said.

To honor their 100th anniversary in 2020, the USTA (United States Tennis Association) Missouri Valley is recognizing 100 deserving recipients with the Gold Star Award. This award recognizes contributions that recipients have made in growing the game of tennis in their community. One of those honorees is York native Josh Budler, the son of Tom and Barb Budler and a 1998 graduate of York High School.
Budler left Nebraska after college to coach tennis on the East Coast and later in Kansas City, but the state of Nebraska beckoned him home once again. Budler is now the Director and Head Pro at the Grand Island Tennis Center, and the latest USTA Missouri Valley Gold Star recipient.

The U.S. banking industry’s second-quarter profits fell by 70% from a year ago as low interest rates and the economic turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic weighed heavily on big and small banks alike.

Despite tumbling profits, the FDIC said it did not see any systemic issues in the industry. Banks have taken in record deposits in the quarter — a sign of consumer confidence in the bank industry — and the FDIC’s “troubled bank list” remains unchanged from last quarter.

TIBURON (KPIX 5) — The Marin County town of Tiburon is buzzing about a video that shows police in an early morning confrontation over the weekend with an African-American business owner moving merchandise into his own store.
The incident was pretty simple. At 1 a.m. Saturday morning, Tiburon police officers saw three people inside the clothing store Yema on Main Street and decided to check it out.
Store proprietor Yema Khalif, his wife and business partner Hawi Awash and a friend were unloading new inventory when officers arrived and began questioning them. Video taken by Khalif’s wife captured the encounter.
