ODESSA, Texas — Applications for the City of Odessa Business Assistance Program are now available for small businesses.
The purpose of the program is for small and micro-businesses to receive relief funding that they haven't been able to receive from broader federal programs such as the paycheck protection program.

The city has $500,000 set aside for the program, and businesses can receive grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000.

Colorado new business filings fall in Q2 – Longmont Times-Call
Colorado's economy, as measured by the number of new business filings with the Secretary of State, declined in the second quarter of the year, as might be expected because of the impact of the novel coronavirus.
Secretary of State Jena Griswold and University of Colorado Leeds School of Business economist Rich Wobbekind released the second-quarter new business report Wednesday.
While the report showed that new business filings declined in Q2 1.7% year over year and 7.8% from the previous quarter, business renewals were up 12.2% year over year, the report said.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A steakhouse in the City of Buffalo is suing its landlord over a long list of grievances.
Sear Restaurant in the Avant Building is accusing Uniland Development Co., which owns the building, of a "litany of bad business dealings." The owners and investors of Sear filed the lawsuit Wednesday in state Supreme Court.
Sear's owners say since the restaurant opened in 2016 Uniland's actions have hindered their business efforts and abilities. The owners go on to cite several incidents including a building power outage, three overhead water pipe failures and a sewer drain backup, resulting in roughly $9,000 worth of damage.

When the Great Lockdown started in Michigan, Nick Gavrilides closed the dining room of his Soup Spoon Cafe in Lansing, had some farewell beers with his workers and set to work on an insurance claim.
He had paid for business interruption insurance, a type of coverage that replaces a portion of a firm's lost revenue when a disaster forces it to suspend operations, and was expecting his carrier, Michigan Insurance Company, to cover at least some of his losses. He didn't get a cent.

A look inside the incredibly popular store along Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit shows it's more than just a slogan. Products like t-shirts and sweatshirts, air fresheners and essential oils. The person behind the now iconic brand is Roslyn Karamoko, a Black woman.

NEW ORLEANS — While the COVID-19 pandemic has had an adverse effect on small business owners across the country, findings from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York show black-owned businesses have been hit especially hard.
According to a University of California at Santa Cruz study, the pandemic has been particularly cruel to black-owned businesses. The study said nearly half a million black-owned businesses have shut down for good during the pandemic, a staggering 41%. That's compared to just 17% of white-owned businesses

An Availability and Disparity study was conducted in Dallas to focus on the needs of minority and women-owned businesses within the city.
The study framework period was from October 2014 through September 2018 and was conducted by The City of Dallas Office of Business Diversity (OBD) and MGT Consulting Group.
According to MGT, disparity studies are commissioned by an agency to determine if there is a disparity between the availability of firms owned by minorities and women in a market area and the utilization of those firms by an agency.
