WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Americans' views about their taxes are unchanged compared with a year ago, with 59% saying the amount they pay in income taxes is fair.
In a separate question, 48% say the amount they pay in federal income tax is "about right," while 46% say it's too high.
These results are based on Gallup's annual Economy and Personal Finance survey, conducted April 1-14. This survey was fielded about two weeks after the federal government announced it was delaying the April 15 tax-filing deadline to July 15 to give individuals and businesses more time to file, given the disruptions caused by the coronavirus crisis.

The Supreme Court issued a request Monday for more arguments in the fight over whether Donald Trump’s bank and accountant should be required to comply with congressional subpoenas for the president’s personal financial records, adding an odd new wrinkle to the fight—one in which, so far, there is no clear winner.
Taxation and Born-Again Progressives - The American Prospect
In the fall of 2009, I attended the Tax Executives Institute meeting, where the tax directors of the largest U.S. corporations discuss ways to reduce their companies' tax burden. The attendees were busy complaining about President Obama's budget for 2010, which included several items that would increase their taxes.

In a January paper he co-authored for the Hamilton Project with Sarin and their research assistant Joe Kupferberg, they offer a "pragmatic approach" for making the tax system more progressive and reject the proposals of Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. They claim that their approach can raise over $4 trillion in 2020-2029. But a closer look at their proposals shows that theirs is not a progressive approach at all, and that it is unlikely to generate the revenues they claim.

Louisiana Oil and Gas Association says severance taxes must be suspended
With the global oil surplus at record levels and the current $12-per-barrel price of oil expected to drop below zero again in the coming month, the state must suspend—rather than delay—severance tax collections, while also addressing ongoing coastal lawsuits and exploring more regulatory relief options in order to keep Louisiana's oil and gas industry afloat.
That's according to Gifford Briggs, president of the Louisiana Oil and Gas Association, who during a webinar today with LABI President Stephen Waguespack, provided industry updates and gave a glimpse into industry priorities for the 2020 regular session of the Louisiana Legislature, which is currently on pause.

What kinds of taxes will a trust be required to pay? - nj.com
Q. How do trusts work with taxes? I was told trusts pay the maximum tax rate and maybe the Obamacare tax too! Am I better off selling assets in the trust, pay taxes at a lower rate and then place them in my kid's trust?

"For an individual, the max rate isn't reached until you have more than $510,301 of income," he said. "Whether income is taxed to the trust depends on the type of trust and whether income has been distributed to beneficiaries."
