Westmoreland County paid $678,000 in overtime wages to more than 1,200 employees for nearly two weeks of work in late March during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.
Commissioners instituted “pandemic” pay for staff required to report in person for work at the courthouse and in other county offices March 18-27 after services were scaled back as local officials looked to reduce traffic in government offices amid the virus outbreak.

UBS Wealth Management USA is leaving it to its roughly 6,000 brokers to help out their support staff with additional pay to ease their way through the coronavirus pandemic.
"We are offering FAs the ability to submit a one-time compensation payment to offer economic assistance to team associates," said a manager reading from the message UBS sent last Thursday. The payments cannot be made through "business builder" expense accounts that UBS gives brokers as a benefit because the tax-friendly accounts are earmarked for "non-compensation" purposes, the broker complained.

With a majority of the U.S. in a self-quarantine mode in order to curb coronavirus cases, more Americans are having to rely on companies like online retail giant Amazon for goods delivered directly to their residences. With the increased demand for online shopping, Amazon is increasing overtime pay for warehouse workers.
Per a Reuters report, “hourly workers at Amazon's U.S. warehouses will receive double pay after 40 hours for overtime, up from the 1.5-times rate, from March 15 through May 9, the rate increase announcement said. This is the second time the e-commerce giant announced an increase in pay for its workers in a week.
