We knew that the latest report on jobless claims would be staggering, but it was even worse than predicted . More than 6.6 million people filed for unemployment from March 15 to March 21, almost double the record-setting number from the previous week. The total job losses for the past two weeks add up to nearly 10 million — roughly 6 percent of the American work force.
