Paycheck Protection Program For Small Businesses During Pandemic Had Loopholes : NPR

When officials with Chembio Diagnostics heard about the Small Business Administration's Paycheck Protection Program, they jumped at the chance to get a share of the public money.

Goldwein says it's not acceptable for companies to participate in the program when they're actually benefiting from coronavirus: "Companies have to self-certify that they need this money because they are experiencing adverse affects."

Page says it was totally proper for her company, which has gotten government grants over the years to work on testing, to take the paycheck protection money.

Coronavirus treatment: Gilead says positive data on remdesivir coming - Business Insider

A leading coronavirus treatment candidate succeeded in a critical trial, helping COVID-19 patients who took it recover faster than those who got a placebo.

The patients taking remdesivir recovered 31% faster than those taking the placebo, the NIH found. The typical patient who took remdesivir recovered in 11 days, while the typical patient in the placebo group recovered in 15 days.

Merdad Parsey, Gilead's chief medical officer, said Gilead's results complemented the data from the NIH's placebo-controlled trial and were intended to help figure out the right dose to give patients. The trial generated similar results for patients treated with the five-day course and those treated with the 10-day course, Gilead said.

The survey is featured on the city's official COVID-19 response website, #ATLStrong.org , which is meant to provide public resources, guidance, and updates on the novel coronavirus and its impact on Atlanta. People can also complete the survey by calling 404-546-0311.

Questions on the survey range from a person's willingness to patronize restaurants, salons, and sports venues right now, to measures that must be taken by businesses in order for people to feel safe returning.

Coronavirus response: Big Trump donors influencing White House

President Donald Trump has sought and received advice on tackling the coronavirus crisis in private conversations with several of his allies in the business world, according to people familiar with the matter.

There are at least four executives Trump and his team have been in regular contact with, according to the people, who declined to be named due to the private nature of the conversations. They include Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman, Oracle Executive Chairman Larry Ellison, Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan and John Catsimatidis, CEO of New York grocery chain Gristedes. Three of the men – Ellison, Schwarzman and Catsimatidis – are big Trump donors.
