Department of Labor recovers $93K for Belle Meade Country Club workers

Errors in calculating overtime wages of workers at a Nashville country club led the U.S. Department of Labor to recover $93,750 in back wages and liquidated damages for 12 workers, the federal agency announced Monday.

An investigation recovered money for 12 workers who provided lessons, merchandise sales and equipment services to members and guests at Belle Meade Country Club.

When 420 workers at the Heaven Hill spirits bottling plant near Louisville went on strike in September, they were frustrated that the company's proposed contract could reduce their overtime pay. Many had earned extra income working seven days a week during the pandemic.

"We were essential," said Leslie Glazar, recording secretary of the local union representing spirits workers. "They kept preaching, 'You get us through that, we'll make it worth your time.' But we went from heroes to zero."

Investigation recovers $170,000 in back wages and liquidated damages from an Oahu Japanese

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (LWHD) recently investigated R-International Inc.

According to LWHD, the salaried cooks worked an average of 55 hours a week. The breakdown of the funds recovered includes $85,000 in back wages, $10,000 in civil money — penalties for the reckless nature of its violations and an equal amount in liquidated damages for 13 employees.

A New Law Grants Key Rights to Colorado's Agricultural Workers - 5280

President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 established the 40-hour workweek, mandatory overtime pay, and child labor restrictions.

Colorado law to end farmworker exploitation praised, criticized | 9news.com

"Farmworkers were some of the only workers in the state of Colorado who were not eligible for overtime protection."

Colorado lawmakers passed a bill this year that sought to end the exploitation of farmworkers in the state.

Senate Bill 87 , which Gov. Jared Polis signed into law in June, ensures that the 40,000 farmworkers across Colorado are entitled to things like water, shade, breaks, minimum wage and overtime pay.
