Oregon farmworkers don't get overtime pay. Some want to change that

Manuel Nieves has worked on farms in the Willamette Valley for more than 30 years, and knows what it means to be an essential worker, waking up early and spending little time with his family during the harvest season.

Nieves reflected on his experiences at an event Tuesday at the state capitol to kick off a campaign to pass state legislation requiring farmworker overtime in February's short legislative session.

Unitil Energy Service Workers Exempt From Overtime Pay Rules

Electricity and gas workers at Unitil Corp.'s service subsidiary are administrative employees exempt from overtime pay requirements, a federal court in New Hampshire ruled.

The Department of Labor can't proceed toward trial in its suit against the New England energy company's unit, Chief Judge Landya B. McCafferty said Wednesday for the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire.

NJ female workers still underpaid compared to males

New figures from the federal government show that female workers in New Jersey continue to make about 80 cents on the dollar compared to their male counterparts.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics , New Jersey women who were full-time wage and salary earners in 2020 had median usual weekly earnings of $1,041, or 82.2% of the $1,267 earned by full-time men.
