Biden's safety net package would raise, not lower, taxes on millionaires, new estimates show

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden's Build Back Better package would raise, not lower, taxes on the wealthiest Americans, according to the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation in a major correction from the group's original analysis.

N.J. residents cited taxes as the state's top issue 50 years ago. That hasn't changed, poll shows.

That's according to a new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll asking residents what they feel is the top issue currently facing the Garden State. The survey found 39% of those polled cited the state's notoriously high taxes.

Rutgers-Eagleton also got taxes as the top response when they asked a similar question a half-century ago , in 1971, the year the group was founded.

Bernie Sanders Is Facing Down Corporate Democrats on Taxes

In a last-ditch attempt to rescue Democrats from their own worst instincts, Senator Bernie Sanders (Independent from Vermont) is working to try to limit the party's politically toxic initiative to enrich wealthy property owners in liberal locales.

At issue is corporate Democrats' proposal to raise the amount of state and local taxes (SALT) that can be deducted from households' federal taxes.

Teachers can deduct Covid-19 related expenses on their taxes this year

Teachers who have spent their own money on masks, hand sanitizer or other Covid-19 related supplies this year will get a little help come tax time.

Those costs can be deducted with other eligible out-of-pocket expenses on 2021 taxes filed next year.

Comptroller's Office: Genesee County leads GLOW region increase in local sales taxes | Local News

Charlie Baker leaves employers in the dark on unemployment taxes - The Boston Globe

After being depleted by a crush of layoffs during the pandemic, there's little doubt the state fund that pays jobless benefits needs a shot in the arm.

The Baker administration won't say. It's still working on revised financial estimates for the unemployment insurance program, after planning to release the numbers in August. Monthly reports on the UI fund, which are required by state statute, haven't been published since June .
