Review Honor, once the value brand of Huawei but sold last year to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology, has released the Honor 50 and 50 Lite smartphones, and we're taking a look at the latter.
Honor delivered some excellent devices back in pre-ban days but these new ones are rather more ordinary. First impressions of the 50 Lite are good: it has a big 6.67", 2376 x 1080 display with a narrow bezel (94.4 per cent screen-to-body ratio) and a slim 8.5mm body.

The application streamer on Monday emitted a regulatory filing that detailed a plan that includes "elimination of full-time positions, termination of certain contracts, and asset impairments, primarily related to facilities consolidations".
The restructure is forecast to result in charges of approximately $130m to $240m, $65m to $90m of which has been set aside to cover employee severance payments.

Singapore's Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) has issued a fine of SG$74,000 ($54,456) on travel company Commeasure, which operates a travel booking website named RedDoorz that exposed 5.9 million customers' data – the largest data breach handled by the Commission since its inception.

Cryptocurrency miners have been a blessing and a curse for GPU-makers. The companies initially embraced the demand miners created, but then worried as that caused GPU shortages which made it difficult to project revenue.

One name that has shocked pro-wrestling fans on social media is that of John Morrison. Morrison’s last match was against Veer Mahaan on WWE Main Event on November 15, which he lost. Morrison made his debut on SmackDown in April 2005 under the ring name Johnny Nitro.
OVH to share its OpenStack automation with on-prem clouds • The Register
Cloudy contender OVHcloud will share the automation tools it developed to run its own OpenStack-based cloud, as part of a plan to grow its managed cloud business.
OVH will happily deploy those on-prem clouds at scales ranging from a couple of cabinets to hundreds of racks, with the latter scale directed at carriers and other large users.
Like Apple, Ford wants its chips directly from factories • The Register
Chip makers like Nvidia and Intel see semiconductor content rising in the years ahead, which means a bigger business opportunity. What they may not be expecting is car makers becoming major chip contractors themselves.
Ford announced it collaboration to GlobalFoundries to design and manufacture semiconductors to secure its chip supply amid shortages. The deal is aimed at the US market.
Alibaba Q2 net profits down 87 per cent • The Register
Beijing's tech regulation blitz has bitten Alibaba on the bottom line, as the tech giant reported net profit has sunk cut and lowered revenue guidance for the year.
The bad news came as the company announced its Q2 results, at the same time as CEO Daniel Zhang told investors to expect revenue growth of merely 22 or 23 per cent – down from previous predictions of 29.5 per cent growth.
TI will splash out up to $30B on wafer fabs • The Register
Everything's bigger and better in Texas, as the saying goes. Texas Instruments (TI) has announced it's fixin' to build two silicon wafer fabrication plants there – and maybe another pair after that.
The venerable company will soon break ground on a pair of new 300mm semiconductor wafer fabs in Sherman, in the northeast of the Lone Star State. The site is apparently large enough to host four such facilities. If TI builds 'em all, it expects to spend $30 billion on the project.
