With the latest batch of payments, the IRS has now issued more than 8.7 million unemployment compensation refunds totaling over $10 billion.

One way to know if a refund has been issued is to wait for the letter that the IRS is sending taxpayers whose returns are corrected. Those letters, issued within 30 days of the adjustment, will tell you if it resulted in a refund or if it was used to offset debt.

Cigarette Taxes in the EU | European Cigarette and Tobacco Tax Map

To ensure the functioning of its internal market, the European Union (EU) sets a minimum excise duty on cigarettes.

Ireland and France levy the highest excise duties on cigarettes in the EU, at €8.42 ($9.60) and €6.61 ($7.53) per 20-cigarette pack, respectively. This compares to an EU average of €3.34 ($3.80). Bulgaria (€1.81 or $2.06) and Poland (€2.08 or $2.37) levy the lowest excise duties.

Philadelphia refunds millions in wage taxes to suburban commuters

The refunds are being issued as many suburbanites continue to work from home and companies delay plans to bring workers back to city offices.

As of mid-August, Philadelphia had sent checks to about 32,000 people, according to city spokesperson Kevin Lessard. And finance officials estimate they'll refund a total of $105 million to nonresident commuters for 2020 by the time they're done.
