Accomack Board changes employee compensation, replacing comp time with overtime pay - Shore Daily

The Accomack County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday to move forward with a plan to change the compensation for certain county employees who are asked to work overtime.

The General Assembly in August cancelled the action because of numerous complaints that local governments had not been notified and did not anticipate this action when preparing their FY21-22 budgets.

Companies Use Overtime to Solve Worker Shortages. That May Cost Them More Workers. - WSJ

Companies that can't fill their many openings are relying on existing workers to stay late, come in early and pick up extra shifts to keep operations running. That's making the nation's current labor shortage even more challenging to solve.

Overtime means bigger paychecks. But it can also create higher stress and burnout. Employers and researchers say the demands for extra time are contributing to a broad wave of resignations sweeping across the country as more U.S. workers quit their jobs than at any time in the last two decades .

SEPTA bus riders are frustrated by persistent delays.

The regional transit agency was not able to hire at the rate of attrition and has to play catch up.

The transit agency is down 105 bus operators, officials said. Austerity measures during last year's coronavirus shutdowns, including a four-month hiring freeze, have hampered SEPTA's ability to keep up with attrition.
