The new bill was signed into law by Gov. Jay Inslee and is one that President Joe Biden called a way to put "America's farmer workers on equal footing" with the rest of the workforce.

Florida minimum wage increasing to $10 per hour this week | WFLA

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida hourly workers will see the minimum wage increase this week from the current $8.65 to a planned $10 per hour.

The increase, going into effect on Sept. 30, 2021, is the second change to the state’s minimum wage since Jan. 1. That’s when it increased to the current wage after the passage of Florida Amendment 2 in November 2020.

California First State to Pay Garment Workers Hourly Wages

"I spent my time in those shops," Durazo told the LA Times . "Back then, wage theft was not the business model. But today it is." According to Durazo, California's garment industry owes workers more than $7 million in stolen wages.

Under the new legislation, retailers in California could be liable for any exploitative labor used in the production of their garments, which they often blame on contractors "surreptitiously subcontract[ing]" their orders, the LA Times reports. "They hire the contractors," Durazo said.
