Democrats consider new taxes aimed at CEO pay, stock buybacks for $3.5 trillion budget plan

Congressional Democrats are weighing a raft of new taxes to help pay for their $3.5 trillion budget bill that would target corporate bigwigs and the nation's largest companies that buy back shares.

On a discussion list of several new and expanded potential taxes is a proposal to impose an excise tax on publicly traded companies that repurchase a "significant" amount of stock.

Child tax credit 2021: Monthly payment dates, opt-out deadlines, IRS portal details - CNET

So in other words, your single largest payment arrives next year -- up to $1,800 per child. Until then, you get a total of six smaller payments this year to start using right away.

To stop advance checks, the IRS says you must unenroll three days before the first Thursday of the following month. See the chart below for deadlines. Once you unenroll in this year's advance payments, you can't yet reenroll, though the IRS says it will make that option available later.

Weiss: Countywide broadband won't lead to higher taxes | Winchester Star | winchesterstar.com

BERRYVILLE — The chairman of the Clarke County Board of Supervisors pledges that residents won't pay higher taxes to support high-speed internet being installed countywide, if the project comes to fruition.

David Weiss, who represents the Buckmarsh District, made that pledge earlier this week after the board voted to continue cooperating with All Points Broadband to try and obtain a state grant for a regional project.

Adult-use cannabis taxes top liquor taxes despite sales dip in August | www.cities929.com

(The Center Square) – Cannabis sales for the month of August dipped $5.8 million from the month before, bucking a consistent trend, but the governor's lead advisor for the industry said things will continue to evolve.

In July, nearly $128 million of adult-use cannabis was sold. The following month, $122 million was sold. The only other declines month to month were in February 2021 and 2020, and a slight decline from October to November 2020.

Downtown biz taxes expected to return to pre-COVID levels

HOLLAND — A slight reprieve from special taxes on downtown property owners during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic may be over.
