Why Employees Are Quitting To Start A Business

Recently, I had a conversation with a prospective client that made it clear why so many employees are leaving their corporate jobs to start a business. After working for the same company for ten years, her position was eliminated at the start of COVID.

Let's face it—it can be challenging to get truly excited about selling computer processors or being an accounting clerk. What gets people motivated about going to work every day is doing something they are passionate about.

DENNIS ZINK: Make your business less dependent ... on you

Your ability to be absent from your business adds to your company's value. When you want to sell your business, a buyer will want to walk into a business that is not dependent on the owner. Capable management, a company handbook and written instructions will add value.

Even if you have no intention to sell your business anytime soon, you should operate your company as though you were going to sell it immediately. The most important task you should undertake is to work on firing yourself. Make your contribution less critical to the success of your business.

'Billions' Recap, Season 5, Episode 8: Back in Business - The New York Times

"You look ready to toss your cap in the air at West Point!" exclaims his underling Karl Allard (Allan Havey).

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that this new clean-shaven Chuck Rhodes has more to do with the vagaries of scheduling talent for the back half of this Covid-scrambled season than a decision made in the writers' room.

Chinese Tech Giant JD.com Founder Richard Liu to Step Back From Daily Business - WSJ

Chinese e-commerce group JD.com Inc. named its first president Monday, paving the way for founder and Chief Executive Richard Liu to step back from day-to-day business to focus on longer-term strategy and mentoring young managers.

The decision by Mr. Liu, who is also known by the Chinese name Liu Qiangdong, to step back sets up a possible succession plan and follows similar moves by other founders of Chinese tech giants facing tougher competition and a widening crackdown by Beijing.
