Illinois cell phone taxes highest in nation
Illinois cell phone users pay the highest cell service taxes in the nation, according to a new report from the Tax Foundation.
Illinois' state and local wireless tax rate is 22.37%, more than 2% higher than the next closest state, Arkansas. When combined with the 9.83% federal rate, Illinoisans pay a 32.2% tax on cell phone service. After Arkansas, the next closest states are Washington, Nebraska and New York. Idaho users pay the lowest in the nation, with a state rate of just 2.71%.

Tribal Council gives itself one more month to pass budget | Robesonian
PEMBROKE — The Lumbee Tribal Council gave themselves another month Thursday to pass a 2020-21 budget.

The continuance was needed because the council recently approved the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget Tuesday during a special called meeting. The tribe’s Constitution stipulates that any ordinance, including the budget, must be signed by the tribal chairman and posted for 30 days before becoming law.
In September, the council voted to continue operating under the previous fiscal year’s budget through Nov. 30. Because the 2020-21 budget will not be passed until after Nov. 30, another continuance was needed.
