Navajo homes get electricity with money from CARES Act

“It was emotional,” De Guzman told KUER radio in Utah. “Electricity was, like, essential for us, and especially with the pandemic going on, it’s made things a lot easier.”

Her home in Aneth is one of 27 in Utah that have received power from the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority this fall, said Deenise Becenti, a spokeswoman for the company.

The utility received $14.5 million from the tribe’s $714 million federal CARES Act allotment to connect 510 homes. Becenti said crews started work on the project in June, after the tribe received $600 million in May after legal delays. So far, she said they’ve made it to 380 houses, or about 75 a month, and there are 130 left to connect before the funding expires Dec. 31.

Food bank could run out of money in March, or sooner - The Skagway News.

Skagway's food bank was better funded this year than any previous year with a $125,000 grant from the municipality and record-breaking donations from companies and individuals. Still, Skagway faith leaders worry the increased funding might not be enough to get needy Skagwegians through to the much anticipated 2021 tourist season.

"At the current rate of disbursement, our account will run dry the last week of March or first week of April … Many are forecasting that demand will go up once the emergency assistance funding disappears that has helped Skagway keep steady this year. So my timeline is probably optimistic," he said.

Dear Abby: I resent how she treats me because I have money

DEAR ABBY: I have a friend who is divorced and struggling financially but doesn’t work other than sporadic pet-sitting jobs.

I enjoy her company and we have a lot in common, but when we go on outings together, she expects me to drive and pay for her drinks and food if she doesn’t have enough money. She doesn’t own a credit card.

I’m starting to feel resentful and like I’m being taken advantage of. She thanks me sometimes, but I think she feels that because I am financially comfortable and she isn’t, I should be a good friend and help her out.
