Entry-level car shoppers face a budget crunch - StarTribune.com

As consumers move away from passenger cars in favor of SUVs, options are shrinking for buyers on a budget.

Automakers love to sell larger and more luxurious vehicles because they can make more money on them, and U.S. consumers have been largely accommodating. The question is, are entry-level buyers being left behind?

Jeremy Acevedo, manager of industry analysis for Edmunds, said affordability clearly has become an issue.

"In terms of affordability, there's just so many less options for people who are in this space," Acevedo said. "When you look at the industry when it emerged from the recession, definitely small cars were the priority, and it was foundational to the business model. … We've seen that dry up."

No tax increase in Loyalsock's proposed budget | News, Sports, Jobs - Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The “not ready for approval” 2021 Loyalsock Township budget includes no tax increase again this year, keeping the real estate tax rate at 0.5 mills, according to Bill Burdett, township manager.

This half-mill rate would mean that for a property assessed at $100,000, a property owner would pay $500 in taxes.

Burdett described this first draft of the budget to be the “best educated guesses” the township could put together in terms of expenditures and revenues.

The Ontario government's latest plan to help businesses survive and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic includes a suite of new tax breaks for small businesses and $1.3 billion to subsidize electricity bills for industrial and commercial operations.

The new measures were announced Thursday as part of Ontario's 2020 budget, which sets new provincial records for both spending and deficit projections.

The government of Premier Doug Ford says the budget will address barriers impeding long-term growth, ensuring the province forges a path to a full recovery from the pandemic.

He added, "it's not the best time to make financial moves, based on the volatility of the economy and the political situation." Supervisors will reexamine it in 2021.
