In times of crises, the role of business philanthropy is pronounced. Currently we are deeply mired in three compounding crises, that no one sector can address alone:
Philanthropic responses to some of these crises have shown businesses at their best in scale and speed. Major philanthropy has committed tens of billions of dollars, with record speed, few constraints and significant collaboration, all hallmark behaviors worth continuing. However, the historical deployment of business philanthropy has always been hyper-proficient in providing relief (read: responsive) and insufficient in providing systemic remedies (read: proactive and transformative).

Industry rankings give North Carolina high marks for business, tax climate - Salisbury Post |
SALISBURY — The future of business in North Carolina is bright, say two well-known business climate ranking organizations.
"It definitely is a feather in our cap to be able to say that we have that high ranking in the Tax Foundation study," said Rod Crider, president of the Rowan Economic Development Commission.
The Tax Foundation, a Washington D.C.-based organization that Crider said is "highly respected" among site selection consultants, ranked North Carolina's corporate tax rate of 2.5% at fourth in the country. At No. 10 in overall business tax climate, North Carolina is ranked higher than its neighbors, with Tennessee being the next closest at 18.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Business owners already struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic are getting hit again, this time with summonses and fines for not following COVID guidelines.
Lorraine Gericke, manager of Best Tress Hair Salon, was told by a city inspector she was doing it all wrong, using a notebook to write down customers’ temperatures and information for contact tracing.
“They’re slapping us with a $1,000 fine, which is so unfair,” she told CBS2’s Dave Carlin.

Small Business Saturday open to all small businesses
After a strange and difficult year, Jefferson City’s Small Business Saturday will be open to all small businesses without the usual financial contribution.
Small Business Saturday — a nationwide event held the Saturday after Thanksgiving each year — typically requires participating businesses in Jefferson City to contribute to the fund that pays for gift certificates and advertising for the event.
This year, the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce and East Side and West Side business associations are sponsoring more than $900 to pay for the gift certificates awarded to shoppers who sign up at participating businesses and advertising.
