Higher than expected revenue from the city of Blaine’s Business and Occupation (B&O) tax has provided much-needed relief to city finances and the 2021 budget. City finance director Jeff Lazenby briefed council members at their regular bi-monthly meeting on Monday night telling them he now expected a budgeted increase from $65,000 to $200,000 and attributed the increase to council’s recent decision to re-implement late fees on B&O delinquencies.
Lazenby said “one large outlier” had paid up and he was working with another company to get them caught up as well. So far this year the city has collected $197,000 in B&O taxes for just three quarters, city manager Michael Jones pointed out.

Small business owners Irene and Greg Stokes don't believe the Victorian Budget will help them bounce back from the most difficult year they have ever experienced running their company.
The Keilor couple have managed to keep their 12 employees in work at their wine-in-a-can business with the help of JobKeeper, but it has not been easy.
"There have been many, many months that Greg and I didn't get paid but we made sure our employees got paid, we made sure our suppliers got paid, just to keep going," Ms Stokes said.

Digital rental and streaming has been a haven for mid-budget movies - Business Insider
Director Ric Roman Waugh was already working on his next movie in Saudi Arabia when he got a call last month that he said left a pit in his stomach. It was about "Greenland," his apocalyptic thriller starring Gerard Butler that was set for theatrical release this year.
Waugh told Business Insider that he had a "tremendous amount of anxiety" before the deal closed. While he would have liked to see "Greenland" on the big screen, it became clear that wasn't in the cards. All he could hope for was that the movie found a proper home.
