2020 Black Business Expo goes virtual
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Black business leaders in the Charlottesville and Albemarle area came together to celebrate their success and share their business knowledge at the 2020 Black Business Expo . This year they had to do so online.
For the first time since 2017, Black business owners like Troy Robinson had to get the word out about their companies over Zoom.
Robinson, also known as the host of "In My Humble Opinion" on 101.3 Jamz, is the owner of Order Up, a mobile food cart. He says even though starting a business during COVID-19 may seem daunting, the expo will help entrepreneurs get the help they need.

The Owners of Silverton's Palace Theater have announced they will be stepping away from the business after their lease runs out on October 1.

The theatre has had its fair share of bad luck after having to close down for a short time in 2012 due to a fire.

BizStarts bootcamp aims to help Milwaukee residents start businesses
Building a business from the ground up is a challenge for anyone, but especially for people in poverty. A new program is helping low-income entrepreneurs make their dreams a reality — and improve Milwaukee neighborhoods at the same time.
On Saturday, 25 people went to the first BizStarts Institute Community Bootcamp for Entrepreneurs at the St. Ann Center's Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Ave. Another 109 watched online.
For the next five weeks, they'll spend several hours each Saturday learning about tools and concepts, and talking with local entrepreneurs in different subject areas about how they were able to get over different obstacles.
Hofbrauhaus Buffalo now open for business | wgrz.com
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The wait is officially over. Hofbrauhaus Buffalo, the German beer hall on Scott Street, has finally opened its doors.
The project was first announced in 2013, and the developer has announced openings every year since. Earlier this month Hofbrauhaus posted a lengthy job posting on Indeed, indicating that it might be opening soon.
Hofbrauhaus told 2 On Your Side it obtained its liquor license late Friday and is now conducting a soft opening.
Local printing business produces shirts and splits sales with others
AYER – Imagine stopping by a restaurant or a fitness center or another local business that was particularly impressive, so much so that a customer wanted to do more to show support. Sometimes there’s a merchandise section of a store to buy a mug or a lanyard or even a T-shirt to pick up. Other times a business might not have merchandise to help spread the word about its work.

Located on 17 Main St., the screen-printing business has been selling T-shirts with the logos of local businesses on them throughout the pandemic. Not only does the company provide advertising on stitched cotton, but it has also been donating half of the sales back to the businesses the shirts advertise.
