Trump tax returns: DA agrees to pause subpoena pending appeal

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office said Tuesday it will not seek to enforce a subpoena for President Donald Trump 's income tax returns until the president's appeal of the subpoena is resolved.

The grand jury subpoena would compel accounting firm Mazars USA to turn over eight years of returns and other financial documents related to Trump and the Trump Organization.

Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr.'s office, in a letter Tuesday to the clerk of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, said the office understood that the appeals court's order from early September staying proceedings in the case to be an effective block on the subpoena for now, despite not explicitly saying so.

How Donald Trump's taxes compare to those of other U.S. presidents - The Washington Post

In 1977, President Jimmy Carter had a problem, according to presidential tax historian Joseph Thorndike . Carter's federal tax burden for 1976 had been zeroed out by a massive investment tax credit he earned for purchasing equipment and buildings related to his peanut farm.

Carter was upset, as he told The Washington Post at the time, because he had a "strong feeling" that wealthy people like him should pay at least some taxes. So he voluntarily paid the Treasury Department $6,000, the equivalent to 15 percent of his adjusted gross income and slightly more than the 14 percent paid by average taxpayers that year.

Ann Coulter has a knack for tweeting things that get a rise out of people — but this post is raising eyebrows for a different reason.

But she tweeted something on Monday night that even liberals could get behind: expressing outrage at the New York Times report alleging President Trump paid just $750 in income taxes in 2016 and in 2017, and shelled out no income tax in 10 of the 15 years before that. She also slammed Trump supporters like Rick Santorum for saying it's natural for rich people to "game the system."
