Injustice to reject police overtime pay | Letters | missoulian.com

I cannot comprehend that the Missoula City Council, with the exception of two members, would vote to reject the $77,352 in overtime pay for our officers while they participate in training.

As a former Lolo School student, I remember the faulty, decaying and uncomfortable facilities during my six years at Lolo.

While out walking on Saturday, Sept. 5, I tripped and hit my head. I didn't have a chance to get names but want to thank the young man from Wa…

Labor law in the U.S.: Workers have both fewer and more rights than they think.

Few people are as knee-deep in our work-related anxieties and sticky office politics as Alison Green, who has been fielding workplace questions for a decade now on her website Ask a Manager. In Direct Report , she spotlights themes from her inbox that help explain the modern workplace and how we could be navigating it better.

When I started a workplace advice column 13 years ago, I didn't realize how often the questions I'd receive would be rooted in a widespread lack of knowledge about the legal rights Americans do and don't have at work. Every week—probably every day—I receive questions from people who either don't realize something their employer is doing is flagrantly illegal or who think they have way more rights than American labor law actually gives them.

Former Baltimore Police deputy commissioner to speak to Gun Trace Task Force commission -

Dean Palmere, who served as a deputy Baltimore Police commissioner for five years following a career in the department's hard-charging plainclothes units, is scheduled to testify Monday afternoon before the state commission investigating the Gun Trace Task Force scandal .

Palmere announced his retirement in 2018 in the middle of the federal racketeering trial, and his testimony is believed to be his first public remarks since.

He's named as a defendant in several lawsuits alleging "pattern and practice" violations by the Police Department related to the Gun Trace Task Force scandal, which revealed years of corruption and crimes being committed by plainclothes officers . Officers admitted to robbing people and falsifying evidence, as well as stealing overtime pay.

Quite a lot has been going on:

Idaho McDonald's franchise owner fined for child labor violations

BOISE, IDAHO (KMVT/KSVT) -After an investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD), Darmody Enterprises L.T.D. – owner and operator of McDonald's restaurants in Idaho – has paid $50,000 in civil money penalties for violating child labor requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) at 11 locations.

The WHD investigation determined the employer violated child labor requirements at 11 restaurants in Boise, Meridian, and Nampa by allowing 14- and 15-year-old employees to work more than 3 hours during school days; past 7 p.m. during school days; more than 8 hours per day on non-school days; and past 9 p.m. from June 1 through Labor Day. The employer also allowed 14- and 15-year-old workers to operate manual fryer baskets, also a violation.

Voice of the people: James Hodges - The Dispatch

The joint employer rule (which has to do with the fast food industry) issued by Trump's labor department this year, would make it harder for workers to sue big chains like McDonald's if they've been stiffed on the minimum wage or overtime pay. The rule was knocked down in court, and the original suit was brought by 18 Democratic Attorneys General.

They called the ruling a critical win for the many American workers who would have experienced wage theft or a decrease in income due to this reckless rule.
